About Nancy Howie Piano Services

Nancy has worked in the Auckland music industry for the last fourteen years, focusing specifically on piano tuning, maintenance and repair since 2011. She apprenticed with Global Piano Services in Auckland and at the Royal Festival Hall in London. She also studied with Sly’s Pianos, where she is now a preferred tuner for the store.
Since her apprenticeship, she has tuned in a variety of venues, including the University of Waikato, the University of Canterbury, and the University of Auckland, where she was responsible for the tuning of the uprights for the School of Music until 2016. She has tuned for Auckland’s Aotea Centre, Town Hall and Civic Theatre for artists such as Ryan Adams, Sufjan Stevens and the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, and for BBC Radio 3 in London. In addition to tuning in people’s homes, she also tunes for a number of local schools, retirement villages, and recording studios.
In 2019 Nancy began training alongside harpsichord builder and technician Paul Downie in early keyboard tuning and servicing.
Outside of work Nancy enjoys writing music and playing in her folk trio, Tweed.
